My favourite spot is a place called the Gloucester passage and Gloucester Island at the northern end of the Islands. Make sure you call in and spend a night or two at a Resort called Montes Reef Resort opposite Gloucester Island in Edgecumbe Bay wounderful place safe anchorage and tell them Doug Manning sent you. At night when you put the lights on, bait fish will be so thick around the boat you could nearly walk on them !! All i did was, i has a couple of lures on traces nearby and dangled one in the water, jiggled it a bit and they latch on. Ate calamari everyday and had plenty for bait as well. Tip: give them a couple of hits on the side of the boat, this way they will squirt some of their ink before you bring them on board. If you then put 'em in a bucket of water, cover it with a teatowel or something incase they squirt it straight up. Another tip, don't muck around with your fishing gear, i took 8kg line up and could see the spool within 2 days !! Don't take any line less than 15kg, and they supplied us with a full size garbage bin, (which i used as a live bait tank) i'd recommend taking an airator with you for the livies. Cheers
