Fished Mornington Pier yesterday morning (5/3) - lots of small squids around, and managed to get 8 even at the relatively unfavourable low slack tide at noon.

Thanks Frank,

Were you fishing down deep (paternoster style)?

Good to hear squid can be caught in the middle of the day at mornington.

Hi Glen,
I usually prefer to fish the squid jigs freely sinking; I only tend towards the paternoster style when I have to cast against a strong unfavourable wind.

I also noticed a few squid enthusiasts having homemade weighted contraptions for sliding down their lines to retrieve snagged jigs. Looked interesting, and successful too - this would have saved me a fortune spent in snagged and lost jigs over the years!
