Subject: DO SQUID LOOSE THEIR EFFECTIVENESS AS BAIT? IP: Logged
Message: I HAVE CAUGHT A FEW SQUID AND PUT THEM IN THE FREEZER FOR LATTER USE AS JEWIE BAIT.
MY QUESTION IS HOW MUCH LESS EFFECTIVE WILL THE BAIT BE EVEN THOUGH THE SQUID WERE FROZEN ALMOST AFTER CAPTURE?

Message: It is my belief especially for snapper and my experiments that fresh squid is always better and I believe that yes it does loose effectiveness when frozen. My sugestion is to either catch squid before you go out of buy it fresh at the fish shop and its always better than the frozen stuff even though its a little more expensive
regards

Message: When I target squid for jew baits, I take a shoulder bag with a wine cooler ice block in it.
Ice the squid down this way immediately, and they stay clear (not white) when de-frosted. The Eyes stay bulged, and the wings retain the opal colour.
I have frozen fresh squid from the fish market, but it does not make the grade for good jew baits - when they net it all the slime rubs off, and the eyes are squashed by all the freshwater ice.
