My nine year old son is a hooked on Squid fisherboy. We live in Ulverstone on the North West coast of Tasmania, where we frequent the local break water. This is producing some very nice catches for us lately. With my son doing most of the jigging and me doing all the cleaning .It is a most rewarding pastime for us at this different type of fishing. Many thanks to this great site i now know how to clean a Squid with out all that messy ink!!

I was at Beauty Point recently near Launceston(June 2002) and managed to catch a few squid in the Tamar River estuary. I also caught my first arrow squid. It swam up in front of me while i was casting metal lures for barracouta. I quickly put on the jig and he came straight for it. Very strong squid compared to the usual calamari. I thought he was going to snap my squid jig in half.

Hi! Glen yes the arrow sqiud seem to hang around coota ,probably to feed on small morsals that is left over from the cooter when they are feeding. We have caught many arrow Squid boating with friends, but not off the shore. The Southern Calamari are more plentiful fishing from the shore ,( for me anyway ) Glad to know that you came to Tassie ,another great spot is Port Sorell.which also have a very nice camping ground and an all round fishing spot.We caravan there a lot, as it produces many good size Squid.Any way Glen hope you return, send me an email if you do,and i can enlighten you on some good spots to fish .ROD from North West Coast Tassie

Cheers,
