I love reading about all the hot spots everyone shares. I'm only a beginner and bought a couple of cheap pink jigs from Kmart and headed down to Rickett's Point in Black Rock.I've heard a couple of reports (one by mouth and other from paper) that squid can be caught from the pier there.
Maybe I've got no clue about what time to get there or whether the tide plays a factor, but I've been calamari-less every time I've been.
Is it possible to catch them from there? I must admit, there ARE ink stains on the pier but I dont know how old they are.
Has anyone caught any from there before? What time is the best to go? Do I need special or expensive jigs to do the job?Do I take that extra 40 minutes to go down to Mornington to guarantee a squid?
My wife cooks a sensational calamari on the barbie with garlic sauce and it's been too long.
Any tips or advice would be very much appreciated.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,

Do you see other people fishing for squid down there? What time of day are you fishing? If at night, are there bright lights on the pier?

I have never fished black rock but i would expect a few squid to hang around because of the extensive reef in the area.
