Fished out deep off werribee last thursday arvo for snapper but only managed flathead and 8 very nice sized arrow squid. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

The arrow squid loved the silverwhiting baited jig compared to any artificial squid jigs.

Cooked up the arrows squid, after soaking in mashed kiwi for 1hr, and was pleasantly surprised to find they were just as tender as the calamari <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Cheers

Arrgh, went out off Werribee on Australia day, but only got a few flathead.

I tried a number of squid jigs but had no luck, any ideas why? It was a sunny day an' we were in 10 metres o' water. I tried brown, pink an' orange jigs, with nothin' to show fer it.
Eeeeeeaaargh, that be bad luck fer ye sea dog <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

During the middle of a bright sunny day is usually not the best time to catch squid mate, BUT that doesn't mean you can't catch them during this time. I'd personally be trying early morning or dusk. It is good that you tried all those different coloured jigs though, you're definately going about it the right way.

A kayak fishing friend of mine has been picking up some good sized squid (30+cm hoods) in close around Point Cook while trolling lures for snook during early mornings - I am still amazed that the squid will hit a fairly fast moving lure, but he's shown me the photos and it's a genuine report. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />
Haargh, Jazman me old mate.

That be good news indeed, I 'll be doin' that then. Point cook 'tis.

I also got a GPS recently, works a treat, no more tryin' to line up landmarks to remember a good spot...Argh!

And how have things been with ye?
Things have been great here mate, we did a trip down the coast last weekend which saw many bream and flathead greet the kayak, plus a few bust offs by BIG fish in the snags - I think they may have been big bream or estuary perch. Still catching a heap of redfin out of Burley Griffin, plus I'm heading to lake Eucumbene this weekend to try for my first trout from the yak <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

It's great that you got a GPS - it's a great safety tool, as well as a useful fishing tool.
HAaaargh!

It be great to hear yer still slayin' em matey. Sounds like ye be doin' more fiching there than ye did here!

A mate at work did well on the whiting at Western port on Australia day, 'tis enough t' make a man jealous.
Hi

I know this is late but went out on saturday and sunday and both days caught.

Saturday was a slow day with on 3 or 4 each drift, ended the day with 19 calamari and a surprize of the daywas a nice 2.5kg cuttle fish.

Sunday was a different story, first drift put 5 rods out and all 5 hooked up and landed only to be put back in the water and have the same happen again. so 10 squid in the boat in 5 minutes was a great start.

Things slowed down from there but still managed to het another 8 over the next couple of hours.

Most squid were caught on yo-zuri 2.5 in green in the mornings then later on black was the colour of choice in 2.5

Hi guys

Here is a few late reports from last week and this weekend.

Fished last Thursday left at 7.30am and was back in with my bag of all squid around the kilo mark by 9am. Also got my PB that day of about 1.5kg.

Most were caught on Brown yo-zuri 3

Would put photos but not sure how to.

Fished on saturday after noon for 6 squid between 2 of us and size was average but had to work hard for them.

Also fished today for 8 mostly around the 1kg mark but then again was hard fishing for them as no wind meant no drift. Most were caught on yo-zuri green 2.5 today.

Gonna give them a rest for a while as they seem to have slowed down a bit.

Thanks
Thanks for the report. I wrote some tips about shrinking images for upload here:

hi frog nice pics, if you post more picks avoid the ones with php in the link. For example this link would work nicely

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3382/squid1.jpg

And you can make it appear as an image like this (...just click on the insert image button while making your post)

Thanks for that

Hey Guys

Went out on Sunday, launched at 6.30 and it was cold. When we arrived at out spot we were straight into them. We got about 10 in the first half hour or so. Then things went quiet not sure it is was the sun was up. Water was clear and got see the bottom no worries. made a few moves to try and find them. For the next 3 hours only managed another 2 squid.

Most squid were taken on yo-zuri green 2.5 and most were of a small size

Thanks
