Here was the press release for last years festival:

SQUID CATCHING COMPETITION 2006

The Terengganu State Government together with the Terengganu State Tourism Action Council and Persatuan Pengusaha-Pengusaha Resort Kepulauan Redang are organising the 12th Squid Jigging Competition (Pesta Candat Sotong) 2006 in Redang Island, Terengganu, from 5 to 7 May.

The organisers hope that the squid catching competition can be a unique and attractive event among local and foreign tourists visiting Terengganu, especially the Redang archipelago.

First held in 1991, squid catching is an annual folk activity in the State of Terengganu. After nine years of holding the event in Kapas Island, the venue has now being moved to Redang Island.

This year’s Squid Catching Competition is in conjunction with the launching of the Squid Catching Month 2006.
The two-day competition will be held from 5 until 7 May. The competition requires participants to catch within one nautical mile of the Marine Park Reserve in Redang Island.

A total of RM4,550 in prize money await the winners of the competition which is divided into individual and group categories.
Squid catching is a trademark activity of Terengganu creating opportunities for tour agencies, operators, resorts, hoteliers and everyone in the hospitality industry.

For more details, please contact Tourism Malaysia Terengganu at 609-6221 433.

Please let me know if you have any more info about this event.

Cheers, Glen
