HERVEY BAY TO BURNETT: ...Winter whiting have made an appearance with large catches of better quality fish schooled up south of Urangan Harbour and good catches between Boonooroo and Poona in the Sandy Straits. Use small squid or yabby baits on a No. 4 hook, drift in about 3.5-4m of water, and you will get a feed. Always have a squid jig handy as they will often follow and attack a hooked whiting, fresh squid are very tasty and also make great fresh bait.
