Has anyone had any luck at pier 86 so far this year? Is anyone catching herring or other fish at this pier? I'm new to seattle and squid fishing so anything you could write back would be of great help.
I've only seen one guy that caught anything a few nights ago at Alki. He had about 3 squid for 2 1/2 hours of squidding and they were pretty small. I tried Pier 86 a few weeks back and didn't catch anything.
I think I'm going to try out Shilshole tonight. I'll let everyone know how that goes.

Went to Pt. Orchard Saturday Night and struck out again. Buddy ended up catching one, but it was tiny. Wondering if it's too early?
Anybody having any luck?

Went out at around 7pm to Alkai and found about 3 other squidders already out there. My buddy and I put up out lights and I ended up catching my first squid of the year. Ended up with about 11 rather small ones for about an hour and a half of jigging. My buddy unfortunately got his line tangled just as they started to hit and ended up with two that probably weighed more than 5 of mine.
The cold finally got to us and we called it a night. Hoping to check out Shilshole sometime this week, but need to get some better socks. Anybody else have any luck?

My buddy and I purchased some portable Jeep branded spotlights from Fry's. They actually put out a lot of light, are rechargeable, and supposedly last for 7 hours. They were about 50 bucks and come with a detachable shoulder strap that is just long enough to hook over the pier railings. When we bring both of ours out, it puts out a lot of light. Much easier than wheeling out a car battery and rigging your standard lighting rig.
BTW, I just recently sent you guys an email about your squid rod. I swore to myself that I wasn't going to drive out there anymore for squid after striking out twice. If you have any pictures, you should post them. I'm pretty interested. Getting tired of using my surf rod.

thanks riconaka! you sound very well connected! any squid reports would be greatly appreciated.
cheers, glen
I went to Linc's tackle today. The news is that Des Moines has some good hits, however they are small. around 4-6 inches. He did mention the bigger squids are in Bremerton area.
Anybody do Bremerton yet?
