Basically you can find squid everwhere!  You just need to get out in the water (pier, boat, etc).  a light source helps.  It has been a great year in the Kitsap area.  Green and pink are basic colors.  Jim sells good jigs but he is not with Juicy Jigs.  Juicy Jigs are great jigs.  You can fish them any time and any place.  During low tide, you usually need to use smaller jigs.  We have had great luck during low tide.  I do prefer high tide, you just need to know how to squid fish during those times.  Not everyone can do it or use the correct jigs.

hey thanks squidmaster, i need to do just that, that is, when i can get some time. probably be going to the boat show either this weekend or next, my boat is gettin a little worn and i need to get some replacement parts/pieces etc. maybe i'll be able to find some jiggin' material there!!!???

Hello All,

I live just a few miles from Luhrs Beach, and have never gotten any squid there.  One reason, its closed at night , and another reason is that it is in a tideflat, that becomes completely dry at lowtide, except for McAllister Creek that flows across the front of the dock.  This makes it a less than ideal place for the squid to spawn.

There are a few private marinas in the Olympia area, that get squid.  You have to have a boat moored there, though, to get access.

I usually just go to the pier in Steilacoom, or farther north.

I have been squidding at the redondo pier in washington for years, not as much as some but at least 15 to 20 times each year for the past several years. It seems to me that last year and the begining of this year have been terrible compared to past years. I am wondering if anybody else who squids here often agrees with me, or if i just somehow have been extremely unlucky on my timing on trips out. How have you guys been doing at redondo lately?

I have been fishing at Redondo for quite sometimes myself, but this season has been a bit slow.  usually about this time a lot of squids are already here.  I also have been talking to my friends who also fishes at Redondo and the results are the same.

Tried squidding last night but I had no luck there was about 5 other people fishing there but none of them had any catch on their buckets.  I will go back again tomorrow and check again but this time maybe in Des Moines.

Were there a ton of people at Redondo (is that where you went?) last night?

I was at Redondo last night but there's only about 5 other people there and no one was catching anything.  I was hight tide but there was no action going on.  Although I don't know about Des Moines area I havent been there as of yet maybe I will try tomorrow.

Have you tried Pier 86 yet this year or Des Moines? I haven't been over there yet and was just wondering how those piers have been. Also interested in hearing from anyone else who have fished those piers lately.

Bremerton was a bit slower last night than usual for me (been very hot the last week or so). I got there later than normal. A good sized school of squid came through and we got a good amount of action, but the squid were small (little guys - didn't add up to much lbs.). Some shark showed up (huge shark - never seen it before at that dock) and I think they were scaring the squid away.

I have tried on both places Redondo and Des Moines but I did not have any luck.  I even went there on coming high tide fished for about 1 hour then left without even 1 squirter..

Wow. I wonder why it's so darn slow over there. Well, Waterman pier and the west side (Bremerton) piers have been active, so you're welcome over here! Doesn't make sense, though. Sorry to hear that. Were there people there or are people just not even bothering to show up yet (I think I'd stay home and watch football if it was that slow-yikes)?

Hey guys Im currently out of town for the next couple weeks but I went to Redondo several times from Oct 23d to Nov 6th, and it was completely dead every time I went. Has anyone had any luck since then? Im really starting to worry about Redondo, I have read in several places that squid can be fickle and will simply abandon a spot without returning. Perhaps the new construction around there has got them scared? Redondo has been productive for so long, I used to be able to just show up and nail um usually (I go there maybe 10-15 times a year), I cant imagine it turning off like that, but I think this is the thrid season in a row now with less than desireable results when I go. Too bad since I live about 10 minutes away.
Its early yet so hopefully things will change, just thought Id put the idea out there.

You bring up a good point. I scientist at Point Whitney Shellfish Station on Hood Canal told me once that they used to get huge returns of squid at a dock in their area. One year, it stopped. The squid never showed again in the same numbers. You may catch a few here and there, but the squid basically disapeared. It would be heartbreaking if that is what is occurring at Redondo. But, it is very possible.

Anybody trying it at redondo lately? How about the other spots? Dont see much forum activity these days. Cant wait until im back in town in a week and a half to give it a shot.

It has been pretty slow here on the East side of the sound.   Seattle has been getting some, Tacoma getting some.  But overall, the Port Orchard / Bremerton area has been best.

It seems like the squid split at Redondo for now, which is bothersome. I also heard Tacoma was slow. I think the tides are low right now in Bremerton, not too favorable for squid fishing. Next week should pick up. There were a few days last week where the rains really muddied up the water around the docks and squid fishing was slow until the water cleared.

Should be perfect for squid fsihing around Turkey Day!!!

Hey how I do get to Waterman pier and the west side piers from the Bremerton ferry dock?  I'm gonna make a visit this weekend but couldn't find any directions online.  Thanks

Hi Ilovesquid (I dig you login name),

Here's a link to directions to Kitsap Peninsula squid fishing piers. I'll be adding more later. Please let me know what you think (as well as other readers!). This is a work in progress. Directions from the North of Waterman Pier (which would be form the Bremerton Ferry) are toward the end of the paragraph. I'll need to clean up the formatting later. Hope this helps.
