Hey Erik,

I am in process of buying a boat, and have not tried squid fishing yet. I am looking forward, though! :)
It would be nice if we could catch them on the Lacarno Pier here in Vancouver, but have not seen any ink on the pier. :) I also would like to hear from anyone for any feedback from around Vancouver!

Hey Scuba Diver
What I've read about squid seems to indicate they prefer some structure, and I think that Locarno Pier is devoid of anything other than a flat sandy bottom. I was thinking of trying somewhere like Barnet Marine Park, near Port Moody. It's some distance to go, but I think the bottom would be more squid friendly, but I really don't have a clue!!! I do have a boat (moored in West Van), but still don't know where would be a good place to go. I have bought some jigs, and will definitely give it a shot once it warms up a little, and will report back. I thought of trying some of the saltwater fishing forums, but they seem mostly to deal with Salmon and Hali's and there were a few reports regarding the humbolts last summer.

Hello Erik,

I think you are right about Locarno Pier. The location like Bowen Island might be better bet. Or close to just outside of Lighthouse Marine Park and Horseshoe Bay, and Hole in a Wall area. Barnet Marine Park may be too far into Burrard Inlet. I think squiddies prefer more salty water. Let me know how you make it out.

Oh, btw, if you can use a person to go fishing with, let me know!! :rolleyes: Perhaps, we could form a local chapter of squid club!! I've been scuba diving for many years. Have you ever tried?

I went to look at a 33 foot Bayliner boat in Everett yesterday. I made an offer. I am keeping my fingers crossed. What type is your boat in West Van?

Hello...;

It's been 5 years since the last entry for this thread.  I've bought a yacht since then.  Does anyone had any luck catching squid around Vancouver, BC, Canada???  I have no luck at all.  Have not seen the squiddy, period!!!

Hope everyone are doing well!!

Cheers, Sean
