Squidfish Rules

Squidfish Rules (Revised 8 October 2007)

Hi and welcome to squidfish.net!

We hope that you find the site to be a friendly and informative place to visit.

To ensure the website runs smoothly, please observe the site rules -

POSTING NEW TOPICS
Please do not post a new topic unless you have made a thorough search of the website and have found that the topic is truly a "new" topic. You can search the site using the forum search function (which only searches the forums) or the google search function. Please use both. The squidfish FAQ may already answer your question so please start there.

SELLING STUFF
If you are a representative of a company that sells fishing gear, squid products or any other item, then please limit your marketing efforts to the "Buy and Sell" forum. Also, please create one topic ONLY and then reply to your topic as you need to make further announcements. Please do not make more than one announcement per month.

It is expected that all company representatives make it clear in their "signature" (accessible through "My Controls" and then "Edit Signature") that they are in fact company representatives. In this way, we will avoid the situation where people may be misled into thinking that your comments/advice is unbiased. Please do not "overdo" your signatures (i.e make them big and/or loud). Common sense should prevail. If in doubt, ask me.

Please do not respond to requests for advice about fishing products/merchandise unless the member asking the question specially requests the comment of company representatives. I have been receiving a lot of complaints recently that excessive marketing is spoiling the forum atmosphere. Please be respectful of the forum members.

Most important of all, DO NOT send personal messages or email to members in any circumstances. Misuse of Personal Messages or Email will have your account deleted.

Also, do not create more than one member account. This is also grounds for being banned from the site.

MANNERS
If you are rude, racist etc you will be banned.

SWEARING
Swearing is inappropriate. "Bad word" filters are in place to prevent certain words being used and they are instead replaced with #######.

DID YOU DELETE MY POST? WHY?
We rename topics or move them to different sub-forums from time to time to make information easier to find. So don't panic if you initially don't find your post ...it is still probably there....just search around for it in the most likely sub-forums. Or use the "My assistant" tool and click on "My last 10 posts". That should find the message for you.

IS THERE AN EASY WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF RESPONSES TO MY POSTS?
Yes. You can subscribe to a thread so that if there are any responses to your message you can receive a notification of your choosing (e.g. email). Just click on the Track this topic link at the top of the thread that you are interested in monitoring. You can stop monitoring a topic by visiting the My Controls panel.

HOW DO I TURN OFF THE EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS?
Please read further here.

WHY CAN'T I UPLOAD PHOTOS?
There is a size limit of approx 150 kilobytes per post. This means that any images you upload must be smaller than this limit. Ideally an image should be no more than 50kb. If you have large images then please use a free program such as Irfan View to compress the image. There are some tips on using irfan view here.

WHY CAN'T I EDIT OR DELETE MY POSTS?
There is a time limit of approx 200 minutes for you to make any edits to your posts in the forum. Click on the "edit" button below your post on the right hand side of the screen.

ABBREVIATIONS
Please do not use abbreviations such as som1, ppl, wtf, soz, brb because they are not understood by all readers.

WHY CAN'T I LOGIN?
If you have any trouble logging in, please write to me using the contact form.

DO THESE RULES CHANGE OFTEN?
They do change occasionally. Please check back every once in a while! Whenever I do a major update I would normally mention it in the Latest News and Announcements section of the site.

Cheers, Glen
