In Indonesia there are so many spots for squid fishing. I usually go for squid fishing in Jakarta Bay, and I'm sure there are still many spots to explore because many coral reefs in Indonesia. I sometimes catch 4 lb squids...and it's so wonderful. I am used to going fishing in day time as well as night, wading and trolling. It's so fascinating that I always remember every detail of them.

Some spots for squid fishing in Indonesia.....Ujung Kulon located in West Java, Takabonarate (the third largest coral reef in the world located in South Sulawesi), Nusa tenggara Barat, the neighbouring Island of Bali, and I'm sure there are stil more and more, because Indonesia is an archipelago.
Squid fishing as a hobby is getting more and more popular in Indonesia, I jump to conclusion because at present there so many locally made jigs but Yo-zuri is still the best. Now almost in every fishing shops they sell squid jigs. When I go fishing for squids I usually bring some various sizes of jigs and the biggest is no. 4. To tell the truth I'm so crazy about squid fishing, and I've been doing it since 1982. My Warm Regards iim |

Hi iim, thanks for all that info about squid fishing in Indonesia. I understand your passion for squid fishing, I go whenever I can!
The squid in your picture look very similar to the southern calamari we catch here in Australia, they grow up to about 8 pounds here, but average less than 1 pound. That is a nice catch you have by the way! Keep us updated about your squid fishing, and I hope that the tsunami didn't hurt any of your friends or relatives. Best wishes Jaz |

Hi iim,
Yes, those are some nice squid you got there!!! I wish ours got as big as that. Although we are getting some larger ones this year. What types of handmand jigs are the locals using, do you have photo's availalbe???? The handmade jigs are very popular here as well. When the squid are in, they hit these jigs really well. The locals are BIG on using extra wide hooks. We also sell supplies for making squid jigs as well. I live in Jakarta....and it's very far from the the epicentrum, and there is no effect of tsunami at all in Jakarta. I'm glad to join this forum. I've just got news from my friend in Aussie...he said he got 10 big squids and the biggest one weighted about 18 pounds in Port Philip Heads. |

Sorry for this "very late" reply. I might represent Iim to show samples of locally handmade squid jigs in Indonesia. Right now he's still recovering from his long illness, still active in our local forum (fishyforum) handling squid fishing forum. Attached is samples of local handmade squid jig, usually came in many "unbranded" names like Yo-Zami etc. Cheers, -------------------- Ichang
