    Hi,

I have only fished sorrento pier once in uncomfortable conditions. I was using a small blue coloured jig and had a calamari follow it to the pier but refused to take it. I changed to the same size but green jig and got him first cast wink.gif

    Hi There,

My best results at Sorrento was casting out to the ferry Pylons and retriving the lure once the jig got to the bottom. My best result was with Blue/Green lures at high tide.

Dont know that area, so i cant tell you where to go.....
As for what to use - if you have a look through the site, i think you'll find all the information you'll need.
Id start with a squid jag!! wink.gif

if you don't catch any squid down there then you can try floundering in the same area....its a pretty fishy area smile.gif

    best of luck, glen

    Hi everyone

Took the day off last Thursday and fished off the Blairgowrie Yacht Club pier. Fished 6.45am-9.00am for 2 calamari (15-20cm hood) on pink 2.5 jig. Fished later in the arvo at Rye for 1 calamari 20cm hood on same jig. Went back to Blairgowrie at 5.00pm til 7.30pm and did not get any. There were about 20 others and only 3 were taken. Don't know if the full moon had anything to do with it but conditions were excellent.

    Cheers

    well.
just wanted to say g'day! rolleyes.gif
its been a while! to be honest, i forgot my password and just today found a bit of paper that had it on lol! much has happened since my last post which was god knows when..
i shall reveal all in another post but just looking for a bit of local knowledge/experience as i will be camping on rye frontbeach for the majority of next week.
i will be taking the kayak, rod, spear, tacklebox, etc.
im also looking into purchasing some floundering gear but am not sure how it all works.
ie. with the like connected to the battery, where does the battery sit?
anyway, i just wanted to know what i can hope for. i hope the weather warms up though because if its like it is now then it wont be very fun!
well it would be fantastic if someone could reply before sunday but if not, no dramas. thumbsup2.gif

    thanks in advance,
    pj

    hi poodge, welcome back!

floundering around rye should be good!

the car battery usually sits in a float that you drag behind you. i was using a wash tub jammed in a car tyre as my float.

jazman was using a frame of connected PVC tubes that was a lot stronger and a much better option if you have the time to construct it.

    good luck! glen

i used a rope that i tied around my waste. and so it gets towed along behind me. also you put your fish in here too!

it is a full size car tyre tube. from a large car like a commodore etc. and the wash tub in the middle is about 45 cm in diameter i guess. you need to get a tyre and a wash tub that are compatible! smile.gif

the water can splash in a little bit if its choppy. its not an ideal setup. i seem to keep getting a flat tyre! smile.gif

Plenty of good reports later in the week of quality squid being taken all the way down the Peninsula. Mornington, Rye and Sorrento have been hot spots with 3-5m the best depth.

Staff member Daniel Matlin headed out for a fish last weekend. Using the plum coloured Hyabusa squid jig he managed 8 calamari to 1kg. He then trolled around Portsea for salmon to 1.3kg which took an Owner Cultiva Savoy Shad lure in 12m of water.
