Keeping Live Squid - squidboy - 10-05-2009 Does anyone know how to keep squid alive in a bait receiver? I've heard that they must be kept in the dark or they will lay eggs and then die??? I'm sorry, I didn't communicate clearly. I have a 3' x 4' bait receiver that I keep in the water attached to the dock behind my boat. I would like to keep a quantity of live squid in it, perhaps 100 or more, and have heard that it is very difficult to keep them alive for very long. I would like to keep them for at least a week or two. Does anyone have any experience with this that could offer some advice?? I kept the squid in this way as you described. Used such a net: The only difference is that you must leave them far from the port and at a depth of 40-50 meters.
