Humbolt Squid Caught In Ri? - twiggy - 06-05-2008 My Sunday paper, Providence Journal shows a picture of a scientist in North Kingstown, RI disecting a 6 foot long squid they identified as "jumbo flying squid". The write up stated that a fisherman caught 3 of these squid off Block Island, RI. Now I understand that "jumbo flying squid" is another name for Humbolt squid when I checked around online. This is pretty far from their expected range but I found reference to these squid being found in Alaska too. If this is true, where someone caught 3 of these in RI waters, maybe there will be more....who knows?
