Fishing In Broome - Jazman - 10-07-2006

Some of you may remember that I recently went for a holiday in Broome. Fishing was never going to be the priority on this trip, but we did catch a few interesting things while we were there.

Below is Broome jetty (that's me fishing underneath it)

This is me with an unidentified fish - it was very pretty though!

These are some long toms under the jetty (they are like garfish with two beaks with teeth in between them). You can see my fishing line, and one of the long toms having a go at my soft plastic.

This is me fishing for the long toms - it was uncomfortable!

And I finally caught one!

This is a huge stingray which swam past the pier, it had a school of about 6 big cobia swimming with it (cobia are a very desirbale fish for sport and eating, you can see them underneath and behind the ray). I cast a lot of lures at them but they weren't hungry <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

I had never seen one 'in the flesh' before, but there was a picture of one on the front cover of Modern Fishing magazine recently (which I bought to read on the plane trip to Broome) - so I thought it was quite ironic that michelle actually caught one! We could see all these shimmery silver colours in the water when she was fighting it.

looks like you had a good trip.

the only thing i caught there was something unidentifiable off the pier too. oh, and a really nice silver bream (at least thats what it looked like) off cable beach.

i reallly wanna go back to broome, but i cant see it in the plans in the near future.

i'm keen to go floundering again if you can find the time and energy when the wind calms down again. i've got a taste for flounder, but i think i still need some more tips and tricks from a pro

cheers

I also can't wait to get back to Broome, but next time it will be a fishing trip (none of that sightseeing rubbish!). I'll be aiming to hire a car, or drive up and take the boat, to give me some acces to further out fishing spots than just the area immediately around Broome township.

I haven't been floundering for quite a while. I'm keen to get out there again soon, although the weather at the moment isn't that great. Let's keep an eye on the weather next week. We need either very light winds (5-10 knots variable) for Mordialloc-Seaford, or light-moderate sth/sth westerly wind for Blairgowrie.

Wow! all looks awesome! must have been a pain in the hind-quarters to be able to actually SEE some cobia and not catch any!
