Baited Skewers With Inbuilt Float - Torre - 08-04-2006

gday, at my local tackle shop theyre selling some squid skewers with a float just before the barbs so that when its fished under a float the fish sits at certain angle and looks more realistic, was going to invest in some but then found out ther 11 dollars each so thought no way. does anyone know were i can get these cheep or.. has anyone had any success makingsome themselves? any tips on how to make one would be great i tryed but no matter what float i had it would cover the barbs and carving it down wouldnt make it as boyant as id like cheers, torre

i would try buying the standard skewers and get half a wine cork and drill a hole through the centre and slide into onto the skewer. make the hole small enough so it is a tight fit and the cork will not move.

(i am just guessing half a wine cork would be the same size as the float you described but adjust the size however you need to).

i have never seen these float-jig combos before. i would be interested to hear if they actually improve your catch rates.

yeh i think $3 is expensive ive tryed the cork the problem is my skewers are to short so a pilchard + cork just doesnt fit im searching for some bigger ones i remember seeing some at gotone, im trying to create something with the float behind the hooks but am yet to get something that wouldnt scare away the squid.

the little float on those 11buk skewers were small and shiny and looked like a good atractant
