Well, I went out again this morning and there where quite a few boats around! Normally I am there by myself, for at least a few hours but not today. Alls good as there is plenty to go around...

The water was like glass, so I wasnt too sure if they would be on, as I have always found that the fishing is better when there is alittle wind and not glass like sea...

Check out the sunrise and glass like PPB...

I ended up not catching at my normal spot, so after 1 hour of nothing, we decided to try spot 2...

We got 11 Squidlies, which 2 off them broke the 1kg mark, Than it went dead, so we tried a to spin a few lures, Bang ended up with a nice pinkie of 29cm(perfect pan size) and bang, bang, bang 20 samon... It was so much fun on the samon with light gear...

another nice feed Doc..well done.

up here in brizzy a 29cm pinkie would be a nice fine from the fuzz...legal for us is 35cm which is pretty good as it gives them time to spwn a couple of times before lunch..hahahahaha.

the prawns are on the roll up here atm so this weekend out comes the cast net and jigs.....see how we go.

Thanks mate,

The snapper down here are alittle different to up there, They grow alot slower, You guys are like the guys in SA, Your growth rate is alot faster, so your snapper is alot bigger for the same amount of years. By the way, I was born in Queensland, Lived there for the first 17years of my life. I use to go crabbing down a jacobs creek and go casting netting all the time, or drag netting for prawns up past redcliff(thats what I remember could be wrong, but I do remember its in that vicinty). But I do miss the good old mud crabs the most. Remember waddling throw the mangroves knee deep in mud with a hook, and you hook them out of the hole or goto the brissy river and get some good old catfish for bait, than put them into crab pot! Casting for bream, prawns...Cant do that stuff down here, no muddies, illegal to castnet(use to be able to get perfect circles, illegal to have pots etc...

Sorry boys,

But I personally know of heaps of people who have come to Melbourne from Queelsland, And they love it. True we dont have great barrier reefs but we do have one of the best snapper runs every year. Plus no need to cross bars to get too it. I can go snapper fishing at 5am and be back and ready for work by 8am...Every fishing spot is close and we have plenty of other fish to catch. We also have a much better economy down here and the weather is not as bad as everyone claims...

well the brag begins.....hahahaha

we can fish the bay with NO bars to cross and be home for breaky with a bag out too.

I was in melbourne last year staying in the Oaks on Collins for a few days just kicking around with the wife and kids and I must say melbourne is a very nice city and well set out and clean...unlike like our brizzy hahahaha

but it is on the return list for us.

Dont get me wrong, Brissy is a nice place but Melbourne rocks. Still have heaps of family up there, so I am up there on family holidays all the time. I use to live in Goodna, Ipswich...too far to fish anywhere...except Brissy river...catfish!

Well peps,

We went out again this morning, this time we went to Altona Ramp and we ended up with 19 squidlies and I landed a 53cm Flattie... The squidlies where alot smaller than what we have been catching lately... Still nice to get out on the water and still a good feed of calamari rings for lunch...

Hi Dr Drift

have you not read my posts?

I have written reports at Lorne, Q'cliff and Apollo Bay recently.

Check out the new Modern fishing...big article on squidding.

Very dissapointing in my view...nothing new.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer ru 12 mug,

Next time I up that way(be awhile) Ill give you a bell,....sight squiding, done it afew times down here and it is a buzz I must say. There is one big difference between brizzy squid and melbourne squid is that brizzy squid attract to light fishing. at night that is... I remember we use to use spotlights to bring them up to the surface where here in melb, I have tried countless times and it does NOT work...
