What Do Victorian Squid Eat?
#1
hello all. new to this <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' /> But not new to squid fishing > <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

I'm interested in making my own squid jig and make it as close as i can looking to the natural food that the squid around were i live eat.

most my squid fishing is done of lorne pier (well at least it has been of late)

All i know at the moment on what they eat is some type of prawns/shrimps and certain small fish, but does anyone have a closer idea (specific species name maybe) of the type of little critters they eat?

any help would be awesome <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

If Japanese squid are anything to go by, anything too slow too get out of their way or too small to eat squid <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />

The live bait of choice is Japanese Horse Makerel but I know people have used baby snapper and have seen video of them taking Stripped Catfish Eel wich are poisonous.

Mmmm seems Silver Whiting isn't only the choice bait for Snapper... Great for Squid too, another reason to buy it <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

As for Lorne Pier, we have good luck there for small squid just after summer, do you other guys have luck all year round or just the warmer months?
