These jigs looks like the ones you can buy at Outdoor Emporium. Does not look like home made jigs. These are mass produced. These jigs are popular even at Joe's they sell some of this jigs.
Happy Squidding!!!

Hey Jon,

Got my son into fishing at Dash Point this year for the humpies. And he has been wanting to do some squidding.

How does dash pier compare to Redondo and Des Moines?

He's over with some of his bud's partying for the weekend at WSU. He'll be home tonight and I'll pass on this website and info.

Any help/info would be much appreciated.

I think Dash Point pier is comparable.... I know of one customer that likes to fish there first thing in the morning. I'm not sure when they open that pier in the mornings, but as early as possible. I don't think the Dash Point pier is available for fishing at night, as I've heard they close the gate to the pier.

Des Moines has been fairly good, mostly around high and incoming tide from what I have heard. You don't have to have any lights at Des Moines, the lights on the pier are adequate. For Redondo, it's been fair, but need to bring a light to attract the squid, or be lucky enough to fish close enough to someone that does.

Made a homemade jig that worked well for the smaller squid we have here at St. Andrews Marina in Panama City Florida(rarely over 10 inches long). Watched what the guys were using down there and just made something using house materials. This is the 1st time I've ever fished for them but I caught 10 the first night in about an hour. I used a piece of a bamboo skewer, 7 staples, a piece of a soda straw, some dental floss and a couple of small splitshot sinkers. I was pretty supprised when i caught the 1st one lol. I'll add some pics if you guys want to see my ugly little jig and maybe you experienced squiders can make it better, but what the heck it was free, fun and made 2 tasty meals so far.
