So far I have heard that the following locations are places you can catch squid:

Island of Ko Chang

Sai Kung

Hua Hin

Shark Island, Koh Tao

Ko Sichang

Hi Glen,I have been living in Thailand after moving from the UK 4years ago.I regularly fish Ko-Sichang which is a tiny island 2-3hours from Bangkok. The peak squid time is xmas/newyear when the waters are cooler, although you can find squid here thru-out the year(unlike the mainland ).I fished Ko-Chang a couple of times,it's a bigger island close to the Cambodian border.Probably a better spot if you were planning on a holiday, much more developed and more beaches.Ko-Sichang has few tourists, and is quieter. It all depends on what you are looking for.If you have any specific questions,I will gladly try to answer them, good fishing Matt.

hi matt, thanks very much for the information. i am particularly interested in knowing places where the locals in thailand go to catch some squid.

i try to collect info about squid fishing in all those countries where I think squid fishing might be popular. it seems that most asian countries have lots of squid fishers!!!

do you think squid fishing would be popular in cambodia too? i have yet to collect any info on the squid fishing in that country.

thanks again for your help, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol' />

Hi Glen,I believe squid can be caught all over Thailand, basically anywhere that has a rocky coastline. The farther south you travel the better the fishing gets due to water quality and reduced pressure on stocks from over fishing.Cambodia is a great destination for anglers and certainly will have squid.Hows the squidding in Aus. ? I'm a big fan of Rex Hunt, but have only seen him fish for squid once, and that was in Thailand. all the best Matt

hi matt, we actually have not seen rex hunt on tv for a while. i think his tv show stopped recording.

squiding in australia can be good. we don't get the large numbers of squid they get in the USA but our squid tend to be a bit bigger and we also can catch them all year round. and they taste great!

thanks very much for the info about fishing in thailand and cambodia. i will create a topic on cambodia shortly.

cheers, glen

Hi Matt, My name is Tong from Bangkok, Thailand. I think the wording you mention in Thai word as Dai-Muuk. It is a method of catching squid, which refer to catching by lighting boat. The fishermen ues light (in the dark night) to draw the squid to surface, then catch them by net. This method is become more popular through Thailand, due to higher fuel price. The trawler consume huge amount of fuel in each round of catching. The supply of squid is available all year round. Squid is also big business in Thailand for both local consumption and export worldwide.

The most popular spot for squid fishing would be Hua-Hin area. It is very convenience location from Bangkok, just 2 hours of driving. I would suggest this place.

Hua Hin! Now, that's a nice place. I was there two years ago covering the Elephant Polo...

Koh Sichang is the best value squiding. Koh Chang is Koh Pang ($$$$$$$).

I have fish Koh Sichang regulary for the last 2 years.

There is a range of suitable accommodation, resturants, and small tackle shops for replacing snagged squid jigs (mainly Yo-Sari Jigs 2.5-3.0 in a range of colours but mainly orange)

Accomadation Ranges from 500B-1500B

Motorcycle Rent: 300B/Overnight

Squid Jigs: 30-60B CHEAP!!!

Beer LEO: 45B from 7/11

Food: 50B-200B

The great thing about Koh Sichang is there aren't many Farang (Foreigners) there like the other popular and more expensive island of south Thailand and the Beautiful but more expensive Elephant Island (Koh Chang)

There are plenty of locations on the island for squiding depending on the weather conditions. Locals are friendly and will say hello.

If you only want to get great value no frills squid fishing experience only 2hours from Bangkok Koh Sichang is the place.
