I'm heading down that way today. I thought red point was a lot further down than your talking about. One good spot is near the old pilon's in the water, caught massive whiting all along that stretch and in that little bay. We used to fish off the rocks just up from there also overnight and always got spooled or broken off few times. Last time went with mate and I fell asleep after loading up with full pilchards on hooks, and setting back my rod to tiny little tent 30m or so off beach away, he tightened my drag when he was checking my rod. Well I woke up in morning to see a50m snake looking mark down beach where something huge had taken off with my rods. Never take middle track that's nightmare, go straight to beach about 50m back on rd you come in once in car park. It used to take us good hour half to get to red point, we used to follow up around edge of cliffs which is but hairy, through the mutton bird colony, look out they protect their burrows and nip at your feet plus it's a good place to roll an ankle so only do in daytime. Once the mutton birds go out then come back in in there hundreds and them flying at your head and around it on way back in is pretty freaky in itself. When we got to rocks we didn't even need to cast really it's that deep.

Yeah I wish there was a decent track!!!

Walking through that bumpy ground is not very pleasant. though i never got mutton bird attack so maybe they aren't there all the time <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi Glen.

We went out to fish on the rocks. It's a beautiful place...caught a few didn't hv all that luck..what bait do you generally use? Do you still go out that side to fish?

Any pointers would be great mate? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I mostly caught parrot fish! I was using a float with pippies as bait. Also some leatherjackets.

Hey guys,

I am moving to Cape Woolamai this week and am going to be a land fisher from now on as we wont have the boat anymore. I have read quite a few posts already and have enjoyed and look forward to it. I have a couple spots in mind already thanks to this site to try so I wont do the famous "where should I try" but Iwill say I look forward to meeting some of you for a fish someday as we dont know anyone on the island yet....good luck! Never caught a wrasse or a zebra fish so it sounds more exciting to me haha.

I fished the Red Point with my girlfriend Jess for 6 hours and there are Wrasse (Parrot Fish) in a plague proportion also caught probably a dozen leather jacket average size of about 20cm.

Also had a surf rod with a bit of squid on it and caught a flathead just over size and later on in the day caught a whiting also just over size but didn't keep anything as it was just for a bit of fun!

And as you said glen, on the walk out we seen an Echidna!

Cheers DylMiest.
