i would have thought you load it when you see a fish...but then again i have not used a hawaiin sling for spearfishing so i am not the best person to answer your question.

Hi jarrod, good on you for getting into spearing.

you can look into getting a glove for your hand, a simple knitted glove coated with rubber webbing will do the trick, and you can get them at dive shops (or Kmart in the fishing section) for around than 3 bucks. Try to stay away from the orange coloured ones though - fish dont seem to like orange.

As for loading the sling, only start to or load it when you are preparing for a shot on a fish you have seen/tracked, or are preparing to go under to search for fish. when you are just swimming around looking, keep it unloaded, its going to be much easier on your hand, as well as safer for anyone swimming with you.

you can try either a fishng shop or a diving shop. maybe better quality at the diving shop <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
