Harmers Haven, Wonthaggi, VIC
#1
If you're going to Wonthaggi, try to find 'Harmers Haven' - rocky beach, top spearing spot.

Wonthaggi is a little bit inland - is Harmer's Haven down towards Cape Paterson way, or is that going too far around?

I'm not really familiar with the area and my melways isn't all that detailed.

Any landmarks nearby?

From township of Wonthaggi take Cameron Street (becomes Berry's road) you'll drive past a footy ground, then a cemetary (both on right), then the road becomes gravel, at the bottom turn right and drive until you hit the carpark, then it's a 500m walk across the dunes to the beach. But if you can't find Harmers Haven specifically, most of this coastline is worthwhile (keep an eye open for crays as well).

Hope this helps

You can also try along the coastline between cape patterson and inverloch, alot of rocky ledges and deep water. top spearing area.

Ahh - the area you guys recommended to me seems to be a part of the Bunurong coastal marine park, in fact that entire stretch of coastline is protected.

Sorry - realised it's a marine and coastal park not a national park so I can spear there - or so I'm told.

Here is some info about the Bunurong Marine National Park (which is not the same as the Bunurong Marine and Coastal Park) :

Thanks for the info - I got back last night. I only spent about 5 minutes in the water, because it was really murky and choppy - it did calm down around about 6pm but it was still really murky so I didn't go more than about 20 metres in - I couldn't see anything so I chickened out and came back.

Guess it was just bad timing - the only thing I caught was the attention of a roadside cop as I zoomed past - they've got a really nice spot in Lang Lang on the Bass Highway.

I did find Harmer's Haven - thanks Jazman your directions were great. It looked really nice - I'm definately going back to check it out again, hopefully with some actual sun so I can see a bit - whatever season we're having at the moment, it's not bloody summer!

Hopefully better luck next time <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

Glen, are you sure all of that coastline alone Bunurong Marine National Park between cape patterson and inverloch is a marine park? im sure its just a certain spot called "eagles nest" thats restricted to no fishing. you know the spot just before inverloch called "flat rocks"? well, people are alowed to fish there..

just wondering..

Yeah there's only a small part which is the marine park where you can't fish - around undertow bay I think.

The rest is a marine and coastal park where you can fish.

Took me a little while to figure it out too.
