I have not gone there yet but I was told of a spot <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> in Breamerton, WA, USA that has a "good spot" for our unsuspecting prey <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .

I grew in bremerton and the places we used to go were the bremerton ferry dock, ilahee, brownsville.



I went squidding for the first time(couple weeks before thanksgiving) in 5 years over at the brownsville dock and it kicked ass...we caught our limit in about 2.5 hours. The only thing is the squid were smaller than i remember, our biggest was maybe 5 inches and there were only a few of that size. We had 1 jigg each and we each caught 2 squids at once on one jig a few times!!! The problem with the brownsville pier is that there's a lock(with code for boat owners) to get into the dock, i think it locks at around 8pm. We went around 11pm and got lucky because somebody was leaving as we were coming so we slipped thourgh the gate. We also didn't have a light and used one of the lights on the dock.



I'm getting back into squidding and have bought some jiggs at a local asian market, where else are people getting thier jigs? I also saw the post about making them, that's definately something i'm going to try sounds fun.

We just moved to Bremerton and want to try squid jigging. I bought the jigs, but we have no lights. Do you need them? Also we don't know where to go!!!!



Any ideas???

Hello All:



We went out two nights last week. Boy was teh pier full. Have not seen that many people out in some time. I was told by my local friends that the night prior to us going out was very good. We were out for about 90 minutes and did pretty good. Say some very large squid <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> The second night slowed down when the salmon arrived. The weather was great but the moon is almost full and did not help the situation. So....the Bremerton area is doing very well right now and should only get better <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



I'd get out when you can and enjoy this weather.

I got some salmon..... will still probably get out and get more next month if all goes well, but if not, I still got heaps in the freezer.

No crack at the salmon...didn't have the gear. We were out squidding. It's been an interesting year for salmon. Good size coho but they have been few and far between for the last three weeks. We will be going out in the next few days.

My wife and I went our squidding tonight. One of the best nights in many years. When we first arrived, we were told it has been slow for the past few nights. We have not been out for over a week so figured it was time to go. I was optimistic when they said it was slow. we got there just after sun set and enjoyed the beautiful sunset. We set up our light and started jigging. Within two hours we had out limit. At one point, I had to be catching four squid a minute. Within ten seconds of hitting the water you had a squid. The best news is they were really good size. I was using blue, green, and pink. All three jigs did great. Now the hard part is cleaning the 20lbs of squid we have in the bucket. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Greetings! Squid are still running hot and of good, with sizes of 8" to 10" inches. We have been very happy with our recent catches! Location is Bremerton Ferry Terminal. Remember to dress warm though! Good Luck!

This skookum from Mossyrock Washington, How did you do at Waterman Dock? I was thinking about doing some squiding in next few days and was wondering how the squiding has been going in the Bremerton area. We did excellent last year in Port Orchard around Christmas time. Looking forward to hearing from you or anyone sqiuding in that area and Bremerton.

Bremerton squid fishing areas:



Bremerton Ferry Terminal - easy to locate -has lights - plenty of room -easy access- good squid fishing

Illahee State Park -Day Use Only -good day squid fishing- easy access,plenty of room

Illahee Community Pier - Crowded, good squid fishing, for "community use only", has light source, great squid fishing

Brownsville Marina - The marina closes early, but there's a dock behind the marina where you can also squid fish. Need own light source, has a Deli and Market on premises (great selection of squid jigs and rods - rods are behind counter. Also sells food, coffee, etc.), easy access, usually plenty of rooom and quality squid fishing



Port Orchard:



Waterman Pier - Poor parking situation, quality squid fishing, can get crowded, but parking situation tends to keep room on pier OK



Retsil - A well-kept secret. Few people at this dock. Has orange light source. There are squid there. There can be as few as 0 people there or as many as 5 people squid fishing. Easy access.

Where do people exactly fish at the Bremerton Ferry Terminal? Went last night, caugh several small ones by what looked like the small boat harbor in sort of the front of Anthony's restaurant in 30 minutes. Didn't see anyone else and felt kind of odd so I was wondering if I was even at the right place. It was the first time I have even attempted squid fishing in WA.

Hi,

Hard to explain exactly where to fish there. Generally at the Passenger Ferry Dock. I heard it was closed earlier this year, so not sure if it is open or not. If it is, just park in the parking garage, and walk out to the passenger ferry. You will walk right past it to the left, and the dock to the left is OK to fish on. You can bring your own lights there, but need a 30A plug adapter.



Another good area is the Waterman Pier, which is about 4 miles East of Port Orchard. You will know this pier, as it's a long walkway to the end of the pier, with parking for about 10 vehicles and it has a couple of portable toilets there. Pretty good spot, and well lit.

It must have been closed. Looked like the pier you were describing was not attached to the ferry dock when we were there. Definitely looks different than the aerial photos they had posted there. We'll give waterman docks a try next.

Not sure which side you are coming from. Another popular place is the Brownsville marina. If you're going to fish the Waterman Pier, make sure you're fishing on an incoming and/or high tide, as low tide isn't as productive.

I am coming from the coast near Aberdeen...a little bit of a drive, but worth it if we can pull a few out.



So for anyone that has fished bremerton in the past here's a PDF linking to their new marina construction. Does this picture imply that where everyone used to fish is now gone? Gate leading to the pier attached to the breakwater was locked when we went probably due to constrcution. I was told that the breakweater used to be attached to the smaller ferry dock.
