Where is everybody?
#1
Everybody quite squiding for the year? There not big but the summer run squid are in. I guess most people dont know that there are two runs of squid in the puget sound now. Can be kind of spotty at first but it has been picking up lately. There average size is four inches right now.

There is a summer run of squid? I'm new to the Puget Sound Fishing Scene and have been squiding the Des Moines area since Novemeber. Where abouts are they running? I havent been able to catch anything for a while now.... I'm thinking of going down to the Commencement Bay area

Been squiding off the Des Moines Pier every Wednesday, still nothing to write home about. Been using my light of course and the simple jigs I bought from Cabelas last year. I'm thinking of stoping by and getting some squidjigs.com in Auburn and picking there brain about this summer run... Whats everyone else's opinion on this tactic?

What? Squid are running in the Sound!? I only knew from the WA fish and game website that they only start running in May at the top of the Sound. I had some good luck for summer squid at Port Angeles last year in August. Someone please let me know. I tend to go between Les Davis Pier and Steilicoom.

Pheonix - Sorry for the two week delay. Tacoma was less than what I wanted, after two hours I hooked only four plus and octopus. (Never caught one of those before, it was a little guy so we put him back... Anyone know how to prepair Octopus anyway? )

I think that I'm going to switch gears and take May off then head down the Columbia for Shad in June. I'll miss Shrimping this year ( My daughter was born last Tuesday, so I want to be a daddy for a while ) Will get ready for crabbing and of course the winter run of squid as well.

What does everyone else do during these summer months? I know this is a squid forum but is it okay if we discuss Crabbing and other Fishing as well?

* Happy Mothers Day to all *

Hi Joseph!!

Welcome to the site, you'll get some great ideas and don't afraid to reach out and ask questions.

Have not really fished the Steili area on a regular basis. With my not so large #'s coming out of Des Moines & Tacoma, I'm not sure how the currents work to bring them down in your area. I was at Harstin Island (North End) visiting friends two weeks ago and threw a pole out from the beach. Caught a bottom feeder but no squid, or anything else for that matter.

- Glad to have a new member, ttyl

Hey thanks for the update, Ozz ... Going to try some Summer squid up in P.A. or Sequim area and see how that goes probably next month. See what happens. And CONGRATS on the young-un! That's awesome!

As far as other fishing - just did opening day with my dad (a 32 yr long tradition) and knocked em dead. We got 4 over 4 lbs. Pretty nice!

Pheonix-

Thanks for the support, just another little angler to add to the family. :-)

Awesome to hear of your catch. Family traditions need to be upheld, in my opinion.

I'll check back in a few week or two to see what the latest reports are. I dont really think this summer season has been the best of things, maybe in past years but deffinatley not this year. Keep us informed on the updates, its great to hear from everyone.

Enjoy the Summer all...

So when are people going to go back out and start squidding? I'm hoping to start sooner this year.

I am going to try tonight. its my first time ever. But the settings seem good. High tide right around when it gets dark (11:50ish pm), overcast, not a full moon. Been doing my research. Goin g to go gear up after work today and get ready. Gonna try here in Port Orchard at either Waterman piew or Retsil.

Anyone else gonna go out tonight and try?

All right, its time again to start to getting back into the groove. I know that the squid are running up north, but am unsure if they have worked there way down to the Des Moines / Commencement Bay area? Is anyone having any luck in areas 11 or 13?

Talk with everyone soon...

Hit the aquarium doc in Seattle tonight. Fished from midnight to 2:00AM. No squids; just bottom fish.Nice evening for fishing too.

Used various jigs with only fish instead of squid.Someone on another forum mentioned that the pink salmon are in town and will

probably taking their toll on the squid population.
