Egi rods

Gooday everyone...I am new to this forum... And believe it or not... i joined this forum because i believe this is the only community which i can gather more opinions/feedbacks from...So, recently i am so hooked up with this egi hobby (squid-jigging) that i've spent hours on youtubes, googling in order to get a [size="6"]good[/size] egi rod... i've been reading some the reviews from websites... and squidfish.net. And even talked to the shop assistant. I am in the process of finalising my purchase. Just a little bit of background... i mainly fish off the jetty @ South Australia. I just need an egi-rod which is [size="4"]durable/sustainable [/size]that i can do a few quick flicks upward - even more aggressive + erratic.

i dont own any of the above but i have used the berkley (heavier model)

if you want to use larger jigs (3.0/3.5) then i can tell you the berkley one handles them well and has plenty of grunt to work them hard if you want to.

i have a majorcraft pandra which is rated 2.5-3.5 jigs but i much prefer the stiffness of the heavier berkley rod for the larger jigs.

they arnt the best rod on the market, but still have fuji guides. although they are s/s frame guides, so it does add a little weight and makes it a bit tip heavy but unless you're fishing for hours on end this might not matter.......but unless you want to spend double what the berkley one is worth then you wont get titanium frames.



i havnt seen let alone used the others you mention.



so.....if you want to use larger jigs and jig them agresively then go for one with a heavier rating, like the 8'10" berkley does.

Of the three you've suggested I'd go for the Berkley. The Yamashita is suited to very small jigs, and I personally dont like the feel of the Shimanos, however I have never fished with them. I have the 8'3" C-Type Egi Force which is a good, durable rod avaliable locally as you are in SA (see link).

The feeling shaft is the best of the three. Samurai make a nice one. Tried most on the market. My favourite is the Whizzers Jive.
