The poles i have are aussie poles I brought them about six years ago and arnt too bad.I cut about six to eight inches off the end of the tip to give more strenght as the light tips are made for course fishing I then glued a ferral tip at the end where I clip the line and jig. As far as liftin big suid over railings I suggest you invest in a net as with any pole you use anything over 2 kilos will bend the pole so you wont lift it. I brought a net for 15 dollars at the market and made my own extention handle as they can be a bit dear around 80 dollars for a good one.
You might want to ask around on the peirs I see alot of blokes with pole that are set up with line guides i just havnt taken a close enough look to see how they did it...
