Perth Action with thanksPosted by Rick on September 3, 2001, 12:37 pm
Thanks to all those who put info out here on the how-to's of squid fishing. I borrowed my folk's small boat and went out into Cockburn sound on Friday morning (31st). I found sea grass beds not far from the first bridge heading out to Garden island, in about 3m of water. My friend and I first got used to the new jigs (a pink and a blue, both 2.5). He soon caught the first squid, but the playfull jiging ceased to attract them, and the cast and retrieve method wasn't working either. Next, we pulled up anchor and drifted with our jigs set about 40cm above the grass. Within minutes, we had caught another 3 squid. Both lures proved effective. As we were discussing whether we needed any more squid, we caught one more on the pink jig which was only a metre under water. He must have been hungry. It was a successful morning with thanks owing to the people who have posted excellent information on this site on how to go about catching squid. This week I'm going to check out the jetties to see which ones look promising for when I have to give back the boat.
