Weighting Squid LuresPosted by John on October 9, 2001, 4:13 pm
I read recently that the weight of a squid jig should be refined until the jig sinks in a horizontal fashon, not dive nose first. Tried cutting off lead weight to achieve this and was surprised how much had to come off to get even close to a horizontal sink. Next problem was keeping the jig down at the depth as it wanted to rise quickly due to its now trimmed down weight. So my question is, is it worth mucking around with the weight to get the jig to sink horizontally? Seems like I'd have to use a sinker and say an 18 inch leader to keep the jig down at the required depth. Or just use the jig straight out of the box 'as is'. Thoughts and experiences appreciated. Regards, John
