Shagged pole

I have never squidded with a pole before and bought one at the Fishing show. The brand is
"Sport Fishing Double Z 7007". Its a 7m pole, made in Japan.
 
I was using the pole and after a minute had caught a squid. However, in the process the pole snapped two/thirds of the way up. I had it fully extended and it appears the pole is sheared. I spoke to a few guys who were with me, who saw the technique I used to get it out of the water and they beleived that the pole was manufactured faulty. Does anyone know of the brand that I mentioned above and have had problems (i.e. breaking) with it.
 
Also what are some good brands of poles and where can you buy them from? My friend has a Silstar which is 20yrs old and 6ft 3in (21m) and is quite
a good pole.
