I'm hearing reports that squid are already showing up in RI. Anyone getting them, tips on where?

Else wait a week or 2. Usually may is good. Jamestown. Goat island. Newport. Fort Adam's. Any pier with light will have squids.. sakonnet.

Water at Newport is only 47. They usually show in numbers at 50.
So, any time.

Water temp in Newport 46.4 today. Had dropped a little and probably more with below freezing air temps possible tonight. The river herring surge has started and is a little late in the regular spots. Guessing squid may be late because of cold water temps.

Hoping this year is better. Last year was hit or miss for me. JonnyFishOn, are you ready for this year?

Any ink on the causeway? Looking forward to putting in some time this year. Making room in the freezer.

A couple of trusted regulars trying but nothing yet. Water temp 49 but a bit colder on the bottom. The trees around the bulkhead look like winter. The weather looks cool and wet the next few days. Maybe this weekend but more likely next week.

A reliable source says the squid are slightly offshore. A few warm days should bring them in the bay. The water temp dropped a little today, but sun tomorrow!

Fwiw, the frances fleet is punting for another week:
Quote:Going to hold off one more week on the start of squid season… waters still cold and no solid reports … whe it’s starts we will be out there There are some reports from colliers, but it seems like charters making noise. hard to tell.

Ink InK Ink. Started midweek but picked up Friday 5/8. Good Luck finding a place to park at GI. Construction not the problem this time. It’s the number of people jigging. Shoulder to shoulder!

Greg CT, I'm in the Norwich area, have you ever tried the Stonington Town Dock? It's so much closer than Newport... I have three or four times, but have only got a few there...

No Exaggeration - The lights from the boats squidding off the shore last night looked like a city. Many did very well. Last report until Fall! Until then - TUBE UP!
