Out in the Bay, the party boats are offering crab and dab combo trips with the occasional excursion for giant Humboldt squid. The squid trips run $65. One of the techniques the captains use for squid is to locate them in the depths, then lure them up near the surface with jigs and bait.
Once the squid are on top, the action is pretty frantic with the big Humboldts grabbing just about everything that falls into the water. Up near Bodega Bay, one group of fishermen observed the squid trying to grab seagulls with their tentacles as the birds hovered around the boat. That must have been a little creepy.
