Hello everyone,

I come from Germany (Trier, the oldest town in Germany :o)). For the last 8 years I spent a lot of time in Norway so I have good experience in sea fishing. Since I was ten years old I go fishing on rivers and lakes near Trier. In 2007 and 2009 I spent three weeks in Sydney only with one fishing trip at Batemans Bay. :(

I joined this forum to find some informations about fishing in the region of Canberra.
Why? – Here’s the reason: I’ve spent a lot of time in the last months to find contacts and informations in forums for fishing around Sydney for my trip in March 2012. We wanted to visit our son Timo who is living there. But two days ago everything changed. All my searching and inspecting of the region of Sydney was for nothing, because Timo has got a new job in Canberra. So now I have to investigate a complete new region to find some informations and anglers who can give me some good advice. So I hope you can help me.

We stay in Canberra from March 24th until April 12th. My favourite is fishing for predatory fish (I don’t like carp fishing). And if it’s possible, I want to go fishing on sea. But I think most of the time I go to the big lakes around Canberra because it’s too far to go the sea (e.g. Batemans Bay).

Do you have some good suggestions for fishing spots and tackle?
Are there some pikes or big perch (or so) in Lake Burley Griffin or Lake Grinnindera?

Feel free to show me all the spots for monsterfish. :P :P :P

I look forward to hear from you…

Best Regards

Pollack Junkie,

What can I say about my fellow "Aussies"? Most of the time they will not shut up!

Unfortunatelly I cannot help you with your search for information as I live in Cairns and previously Darwin.

What I can say to you is you come from a fantastic part of Germany, I lived in Wecker and worked in Luxembourg 21 years ago and visited your city often.

I was there when the first Gulf War happened and I was amaised at the large effergy of a man surrounded with burning candles for the 6 week duration in the old square. The Candle wax must have been 18 inches high at the end of it.

Enjoy your stay in Canberra.
