Where to purchase sachets of squid ink to cook with pasta??

I have 2 weeks to find some ink for a chef competition in Auckland, seems MAF won't allow imports and I don't really feel the need to clean a few squid to get the ink!!

Thanks in advance.

hehehe,...

looks like you are going to have to catch your own squid and also extract the ink sacks yourself cause i have never seen ink sacks for sale here in Melbourne victoria, but i could be wrong.

there was some advice posted in these forums on how to get the ink sacks out without bursting them

Hi, I'm hoping to make squid ink risotto for Christmas. Does anyone know of a source where I can buy the ink packaged? Thanks.

Hi Karen
A few people have asked about buying ink on this site... consensus seems to be that you will have to catch the squid yourself and take out the ink sacs.....this is easily done, but if you are not a squid fisher, or don't know any squid fishers, this might be difficult. Perhaps it would be worthwhile visiting a nearby pier to see if anyone is catching squid. Not many people keep the ink sacs, so I doubt if they would mind if you took the ink from their squid.
Good luck

Hi...

My first visit here, on the prowl for a recipe for squid ink sauce.

I found the ink for sale at the Spanish Table here in Santa Fe, but they have stores in three cities, I believe, and will do mail order. Visit them on the web at http://www.tablespan.com/.

I KNOW Christmas is over, but if you didn't get to make the risotto, you might still have the yen to do so.

Cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Thanks for providing that info.

Did you end up buying the ink? Do you buy it as a liquid or as a powder?

Thanks,

Found some squid ink for sale (I actually think it might be cuttlefish ink) - At Lygon Food Store, Lygon Street, Carlton (VICTORIA).
Not sure if it's powdered or liquid, pack is pretty small so I'm guessing it's powder, I'll have to buy some and see.

Squid Ink 0.15 oz from Spain.
All natural tinta de calamar, essential for the famous Spanish dish 'Arroz Negro' or black rice. Eight packets is enough for one recipe.
