Newport, Ri - 2006 Squid Season
#21
Only got about 10 tonight. The bite was a little slow. Saw a lot in schools but they were not feeding much when I was there. I left at 10:15. How did you make out Thomas?

Parking is available on street on mainland. You will have to start plugging the meters as of may 1st. Park in approprate spots or you WILL get towed and keep the meters plugged or you WILL get a ticket. Be careful about trying to park at the hotel lot at Goat Island. They do not like it. And it really pissed them off a couple of years ago went someone went into the public hotel bathroom and cleaned their squid! A really stupid move.

Hey! spawnle great catch! I'm new to this site. How big are they? The last time I went squid fishing was last years. Me and my wifes cusine caught about 2 cooler full and 1-1/2 bucket full we stayed til morning. There's a location that we know where they're plenty of squid. I haven't went yet this season. So I don't know if they're in yet!. Anyway just introducing my self to the site.

Later!

I'm thinking of bringing my boat up to the goat island bridge and fishing from the water. Where do boats anchor up? It looks like the north side of the bridge is the correct side, but any local knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello All,

I have been fishing on this island for about 15 seasons. The best time to squid fishing for me is about sunset time, (doesn't matter low or high tide, best's @ high tide). I usually get there arround 6-10pm.

How big is squid? it is medium size. I will go tonight and will post picture later.

This is my personal opinion: Newport is beautiful place, the city keeps street clean. Please please, pick up after yourself. Thank you for reading

Thanks for all the reports <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> It is good to hear so many people are out catching squid. I would explore areas all along the coast for squid fishing. You will be surprised to find them basically everywhere. If you use a boat, you do not have to anchor. You can also drift with your light over the side of the boat. The squid school so they are moving around. I've noticed patterns in how they circle the piers we fish. A good light will attrack a lot of bait, and squid!

Good Luck!
