Puget Sound, Wa (2009 Season)
Been having no luck lately <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Bremertons ferry has some new rules since end of August.

1. Everyones kicked out by 10pm now. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

2. Can't squid by the boats anymore. All fishing is done at the end of the dock now. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

3. No lamps allowed either. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

I tried brownsville the other night with my girlfriend and a couple buddies. Not much luck there.. about 3 pieces of small squid from 8:30pm-11:30pm.
interesting I was just there last weekend and you are still allowed to bring floodlights, but yah you do get kicked off at 1o- pm however if you are moored there, like we were, you can fish as long as you like
WOW! This year truly sucks in every aspect so far... Went down to 86 last night with two of my friends for two hours....... and....... NOTHING. Besides us three there were two other fellas down there and over the corse of my stay five people caught three squid, besides us there were only two otheres there. Everyone seems to be saying its heating up, if it is not at pier 86. Where?
I try for a few hours at Edmonds dock last night. I GOT NOTHING TOO!!! maybe the weather is too warm ..

We just bought a boat two weeks ago (Trophy 2302) and are excited to hear about the humboldt squid in the area. We live in the Olympia area and are interested in going after these guys! I'm hearing Neah bay, Sekiu and a few Westports being thrown around. Anyone have any thoughts as to a good place to try for these good tasting monsters? Is it better to go out by boat or stick to the piers? ANY information or thoughts would be so appreciated as we have never tried squidding before. Sounds like the Winter season for the pacific squid is right around the corner as well? Thank You!!

If you want to catch Humboldt Squid here, your best bet is Westport. I just got back from Sekiu salmon fishing, and they are catching a few while salmon fishing. We tried it at night in the bay for a couple hours on Saturday night with a big flood light. Brought up lots of herring, but a no-show for squid.

As for local squid, middle of October/November is when they usually start coming in good. I'll be taking my boat out for them this year, I have a power inverter setup, and Metal Halide flood light. NO crowds on my boat either.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help. I like the closer drive to Westport instead of Neah Bay anyhow! We just bought some lights and are working on wiring them up on the boat now. What do you recommend for depth/location in Westport? Also, I see countless squid jigs. If people are catching them while targeting salmon, is Herring my best bet? I see Colman's has some pretty neat bait jigs.

Hard to say on depth and location. I know the guys fishing for salmon had been picking them up there. So I think if you ran out several miles to maybe the 150-200' line would be a good place to start. If you're going to do it at night, I would just suggest drifting with your lights, and just jig at varying depths.

As for jigs, baited jigs would work, but I don't currently have any heavy hooks in stock for making up baited jigs suitable for humboldt squid. I do have some new Humboldt Squid Jigs that are lit up by LED lights that have had really good results.

I unfortuneately won't be able to go after humboldt squid till next year now, as hunting season is coming up, and need to start preparing for that.

If I can help you with jigs or any thing else, let me know.

Quote:Still fair to good squid jigging at the Bremerton Pier, Des Moines Pier, Edmonds Pier, and Pier 86 off Elliott Way in Seattle.

I had some customers stop by today that have been fishing Seattle. They have been fishing on the big open pier, I think Pier 56 or 64??? I can't remember which it is... They have been doing really well. Last night they said they got some REALLY big ones.

I'll hopefully find time to go next week.

Hey guys been a while since Ive read the post! Just got done with deer season and that marks my first trip out squiddin'! Was pleased to see that some are having luck early in the season again. My wife and I are going to edmonds tonight to give her a quick try and then, if it's slow, we will move down to Seattle. Hey I read the post about the big open pier, and are they talking about the Seattle Aquarium Pier? If it is I have had some stellar nights there in the past seasons and it wouldn't at all suprise me to hear that they are back there in numbers.

let me know how you do. I was going to 86 because you can plug in to the outlets instead of generators but would be willing to switch if there was a better spot.

Anything on Seacrest Park this year?

Took the boat out of Olympia Saturday night. Went to the East side of Squaxin Island. NOTHING! Anybody have any ideas of a good area to try from the boat? Maybe I am too early, for this far down South still?
